Is it safe?
Balloon flight is as safe as traveling in an aircraft. The technical systems are very simple and there is almost nothing that can go wrong.
When do we fly?
Mostly we fly early in the morning, starting at 6 a.m., because this time of day provides calm, cool air for gentle and stable flights, soft landings and maximum lifting capacity of the balloon. Also we can fly in the evening, but it will be a shot flight.
Where will we fly?
Balloons can only travel with the wind. So we study the prevailing winds at different elevations and select a take-off site that will provide the best flight-path possible. The pilot ascends and descends to find air currents that are moving in the desired direction (see "Flying Zones").
Where do we land?
We are welcome to land in the many open fields in the area we fly over. Your pilot will begin the gentle descent when he finds an appropriate landing site where we are met by our experienced ground crew.
What should I wear and bring?
It depends on the season.
For summer: jeans or casual trousers and flat heeled shoes.
For winter: Layer warm clothing, winter jacket etc.
It's no colder in the balloon than on the ground, yet you may wish to bring a light jacket.
Bring your camera and lots of film. Our crew will be happy to take pictures of you in the balloon.
How many people can ride in a hot air balloon?
Our balloons' capacities range is 3-4 passengers (depends on their weight).
How long is the flight?
We are normally in the air for about 1,00-1,20 hour. The whole experience lasts 4 to 5 hours.
What about weather conditions?
Of cause, sunny weather with a slow wind is the best. But clouds and even light rain is not a problem when the wind conditions are stable. Before we fly, we check the weather. We know it in details 24 h. before the flight.
How long is the flying season?
Usually we start flying in April (when the weather becomes reliable) and continue right through until November. But we can fly in winter as well.
Is age a consideration?
It's good for children after 10 and adults under 100.
Do you have Insurance and licenses?
All of our passengers, pilots and balloons are insured by the most reliable Georgian insurance company "Imedi-L". Our company has an official status of a Commercial Airline. All our pilots are professionals licensed from the Georgian Civil Aviation authority. We operate more then three years.
What is included?
Our shuttle will pick you up from your hotel and after the end of the flight drive you back to the city. At the end of the flight you'll be awarded by a flight certificate and celebrate it with a glass of champagne.
We can help you celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or any other special occasions.
Cancellation
In the event of cancellation of the flight due to bad weather conditions, we will make a full refund of any money paid. You may cancel your reservation up to 24 hours before the flight date with no charge, or you can change the date of your flight (subject to availability). In case no cancellation is made, it will be regarded as a no-show and you will be charged in full.
We reserve the right to change or modify our fees; subject to the changes that may occur in various charges in Georgia, such as fuel prices, taxes etc and fluctuations in exchange rates, that could have any direct effect on our general costs.
What kind of equipment do you use?
All our balloon equipment is to the highest standard and is manufactured by Kubicek Balloons&Airshipa Co. in Czech Republic. We have sturdy four-wheel drive "Niva" ground support vehicles for retrieval of the equipment from the fields.
What are the main parts of a hot air balloon?
A hot air balloon has three major parts: the envelope, the burner, and the basket (or gondola). The basket is where passengers ride. Usually made of wicker, baskets protect the occupants and are lightweight and flexible. The burner is positioned above the passengers' heads and produces a huge flame to heat the air inside the envelope. The envelope is the colorful fabric bag that holds the hot air. When the air inside the envelope is heated, the balloon rises. To descend, the pilot allows the air to cool and the balloon becomes heavier than air. The pilot has complete control of the up-and-down movements by controlling the heat in the envelope.
What are envelopes made of?
Rip-stop nylon is the most common material, but polyester and other fabrics are also used. The fabric around the lower opening (called the mouth) of the balloon are usually made from a fire resistant material like Nomex, similar to the suits that firefighters wear.
What is a balloon basket made of?
Woven wicker is used because it is lightweight, flexible and easily repaired. It also looks nice!
Are all hot air balloons alike?
All hot air balloons consist of a burner system, a basket and an envelope. The differences are in the shape and size of the envelope, the deflation system, the basket shape and design and the configuration, design, and number of burners.
What fuel do balloons use?
Our hot air balloons carry up 80 liters of propane in stainless steel fuel tanks.
How high do balloons fly?
Balloons normally fly below 1500 m, all within Georgian Aviation Regulations. At these altitudes you will be able to observe people and animals as time appears to stand still for awhile.
What happens if the burner goes out?
If the burner goes out, the first burner would be reignited. If that did not work, there is Fire Two that can be relied on to fly the balloon. If that fails, there is a third burner! If there were no burners, the balloon would land at about the same rate as a parachute.
How passengers stay in basket?
Passengers normally stand in the basket during the flight. But don't worry, the basket is chest high!
